چکیده

Biogenic fraction of airborne PM10 which includes bacteria, viruses, fungi and pollens, has been proposed as one the potential causes toxicity. The present study aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding microbial community variations associated PM10, their main local sources in surrounding environment three urban sites Rome, characterized by differential pollution rate: green area, residential area polluted close traffic roads. We combined high-throughput amplicon sequencing bacterial 16S rRNA gene fungal internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region, with detailed chemical analysis particulate matter sampled from air, paved road surfaces leaf Quercus ilex. Our results demonstrated that communities were highest alpha-diversity grouped separately epiphytic dust communities. reconstruction source-sink relationships revealed resuspension/deposition might contribute maximum magnitude exchanges. relative abundance extremotolerant microbes was found be enhanced progressively increase levels well opportunistic human pathogenicity

Microbial Diversity in Heavy-metal Polluted Waters

Indigenious water microflora as well as the presence of metaland xenobiotic biotransforming bacteria were investigated in waters near the KCM Pb-Zn smelter, South Bulgaria. Content of As, Hg, Cd, Mn, Pb, Cu and Zn exceeded in times the maximum permission standart. Absence of some microbial groups demonstrated a change in the microbial community structure in the region. Ecotoxicology test ISO/DI...

Geochemical Influence on Microbial Communities at CO2-Leakage Analog Sites

Microorganisms influence the chemical and physical properties of subsurface environments and thus represent an important control on the fate and environmental impact of CO2 that leaks into aquifers from deep storage reservoirs. How leakage will influence microbial populations over long time scales is largely unknown. This study uses natural analog sites to investigate the long-term impact of CO...

A Metagenomic Framework for the Study of Airborne Microbial Communities

Understanding the microbial content of the air has important scientific, health, and economic implications. While studies have primarily characterized the taxonomic content of air samples by sequencing the 16S or 18S ribosomal RNA gene, direct analysis of the genomic content of airborne microorganisms has not been possible due to the extremely low density of biological material in airborne envi...

Lignocellulose-Degrading Microbial Communities in Landfill Sites Represent a Repository of Unexplored Biomass-Degrading Diversity

The microbial conversion of lignocellulosic biomass for biofuel production represents a renewable alternative to fossil fuels. However, the discovery of new microbial enzymes with high activity is critical for improving biomass conversion processes. While attempts to identify superior lignocellulose-degrading enzymes have focused predominantly on the animal gut, biomass-degrading communities in...
